The band present the live session with a brief interview:
Hi, thank you for the opportunity of this premiere and welcome to our pages, how are you?
“Thank you, we´re fine, hope you´re doing well, too!“
How did you get the idea to make this Night Wobble Session?
“I think there were two reasons. One was that we just didn´t feel like making a “standard” music video of an already recorded song this time, but instead, we thought it could be fun to shoot a proper recorded live session. That’s something we actually never did before and we were quite excited to giving it a try. Luckily, we have skilled friends (Pascal and Flo) who are experienced in filming, cutting and music in general and they were willing to help out.
The other reason was that the band has been going through a transition for the past few years. The former psych/blues duo is now an instrumental trio and much less “rock” oriented as it has been for the past decade. Even if the previous album was already fully instrumental and therefore the beginning of this new chapter, we were still touring as a duo, playing our rock set of songs from the older records. This could obviously lead to some confusion… With this live session, we’d eventually like to introduce the new line-up and the new sound of Pretty Lightning, even live.“
Four tracks recorded live in the studio, how did you create the setlist?
“We just recorded a set of songs and choose a selection each of us and Pascal were fine with, there was’nt a lot of planning done beforehand.“
How do they differ from the versions contained in the new album “Night Wobble”?
“Some a little, some quite a lot. There were songs that just worked out right away, but others had to be deconstructed and put back together differently for live performaces. But that’s cool, different situations require different approaches sometimes. And there are a few songs that work live only in their unique “live take” and I wouldn’t be surprised when someone couldn’t recognize the album version.“
“Night Wobble” is your new album, how would you describe this work?
“As one faces a hard task trying to describe her/his own work, I’d rather cite Fuzz Club now: “it’s a set of downtempo, repetitive grooves that course through dusty spaghetti-western psychedelia, Tuareg-derived desert-blues, library music and ’70s progressive. It’s always cinematic but shot through with trippy, off-kilter moments that bring a sense of alien to the widescreen panoramas here – this is an “oozy, woozy cowboy groove”, as they put it. If it was David Lynch who directed ‘Paris, Texas’ then Ry Cooder’s soundtrack might have sounded something like this.”“
What are the themes of the new album “Night Wobble”?
“For me, Night Wobble is the soundtrack for an imaginary walk through the woods at night. But, and that’s the very cool thing with instrumental albums, it is open for any sort of interpretation. To each his own, enjoy the ride 😉“
How did the creative process of the album happen?
“First there was this concept, or the theme or story of the album as a whole and during the writing process it eventually came together, piece by piece. The single songs just evolve from jamming over and over again, pretty standard, I guess.“
