On Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 May, the Prog and Frogs Music Festival, now in its Sixth Edition, returns to Cascina Caremma (Besate – MI). Prog and Frogs is a unique festival for the choice of location, the quality of the programme and the conception by three different realities: the entrepreneurship in the area of Gabriele Corti (Cascina Caremma), the independent and Progressive discography of Matthias Scheller (AMS Records), the radio experience of Renato Scuffietti (Radio Popolare). Prog and Frogs – proudly free admission, outdoors but indoors… – recaptures the climate, spirit and mood of the festivals of the 60s and 70s, when music linked meditation, art, culture and protest. Immersed in the Ticino Park, Cascina Caremma is a reality that began in 1988 with the conversion of the land to organic production methods, and over the years has become a popular agritourism but above all a laboratory of ideas and initiatives for the protection and enhancement of the territory. The concerts will be held in Caremma al Molino, a few minutes from the farmstead, where an old mill once served the fields in the area.

Saturday 25 May from 6 p.m. will start with three extraordinary bands, among the most important of Italian Progressive Rock: Ombra della Sera, Ellesmere & David Jackson and Osanna & David Jackson. The opening of the collector and media populariser Mox Cristadoro with his Rock Tales, dedicated to the restless paths of the 1970s TV drama, will introduce the first group, L’Ombra della Sera. This is an ensemble of mysterious musicians, authors of a single record in 2012, returned to obscurity and now re-emerging for their first concert, who will pay homage to the theme songs of some historic 1970s TV dramas such as “Gamma,” “Ritratto di donna velata” and “Il segno del comando,” Progressive with a Dark/Gothic touch and a tribute to masters such as Enrico Simonetti, Riz Ortolani and Berto Pisano.
Completely different, Symphonic, romantic and luminous is the Progressive Music of Ellesmere, a Capitoline project conceived by Roberto Vitelli: authors of four albums and a live record, Ellesmere are also appreciated worldwide for the participation of Maurizio Guarini of Goblin and foreign giants such as singer John Wilkinson and David Jackson, famous for his saxophones in Van Der Graaf Generator. The eccentric English saxophonist will also be in force with the legendary Osanna, the glorious Neapolitan Rock band that will close the first evening of Prog And Frogs with one of its unmistakable performances combining Mediterranean warmth and pathos with the most advanced and theatrical forms of contemporary Prog. Over 50 years of history for a true institution of Italian music.

Sunday 25 May will see the return live of another historic band from our Prog scene, one of the most seminal and long-lived: Semiramis. Known for having been Michele Zarrillo and Giampiero Artegiani‘s youth band, Semiramis released “Dedicato a Frazz” in 1973, an album adored by Prog fans all over the world. They then disbanded and returned this year in great form with a new biting album entitled “La fine non esiste,” led by historic drummer Paolo Faenza. In closing, CFC, born in the spring of 1974 thanks to their love for Genesis, which they paid homage to with passion, becoming one of the most prolific cover bands in the west of Milan, not only of Peter Gabriel and co. but also of national and international Prog. The focus of Mox Cristadoro’s Rock Tales will be on Biglietto Per L’Inferno, with a chat with the founders of the historic band Mauro Gnecchi, Pilli Cossa and Giuseppe Baffo Banfi fifty years after the release of the first self-titled album.

Prog And Frogs is also a new age market (various crafts, vinyl), Foodstock (catering with traditional and vegetarian dishes made with BIO products from the Cascina) and camping opportunities. During the event, the first Caremma-branded record (available in both LP and CD+DVD formats) will be premiered, published by AMS Records and dedicated to the recording of one of the most evocative concerts of the 2023 edition: the live performance of Jumbo, who re-propose in its entirety their classic LP “Vietato ai minori di diciotto anni?” (1973).
