The Dear Hunter Sunya

Longstanding American Progressive Rock band The Dear Hunter are excited to present “Marauders,” the latest single to be lifted from the FridayMarch 20 release of “Sunya,” the band’s brand new studio album (pre-save, pre-add and pre-order HERE). In conjunction with the single release, The Dear Hunter also recently launched a nationwide ARG (Alternate Reality Game) that has challenged fans with cryptic messages and puzzles that unlock clips of songs from the upcoming album, building an immersive experience around the world of “Sunya.” This ongoing ARG has turned music discovery into an immersive adventure, giving fans a unique way to connect with the band and the story behind the album.

The latest phase, specifically centered on “Marauders,” has tasked fans with helping apprehend “stolen cargo” from wanted “Marauders.” By decoding hidden messages, participants discovered the real-world addresses of establishments in Rhode Island, Illinois, and Florida, where physical copies of the unreleased album were hidden, allowing a select few lucky fans to experience “Sunya” two weeks early. With all the records recovered, the band has now officially released the single itself. Connect with the band via its interactive website HERE.

Moving further into the world they began shaping on 2022’s “Antimai,” “Sunya” finds The Dear Hunterleaning into synth textures and tightly wound grooves, pulling from Jazz and Funk as much as Progressive Rock. The scope is still ambitious, but the lens has shifted. Where “Antimai” spoke from the collective voice of a city, “Sunya” is personal. The songs follow a single perspective stepping beyond the walls for the first time, confronting both the physical wasteland left behind and the quieter realization that meaning might not come from any higher power at all. It’s The Dear Hunter expanding their palette while turning inward, letting rhythm carry the story as much as spectacle ever did.

“’Sunya’ is our most ambitious effort to date,”
the band said. “There are a lot of funky, jazz-fusion type influences that show up in these songs. But, the record still feels like The Dear Hunter. Lyrically, we explore a lot of dystopian themes, while adding a bunch of synthy layers. It’s a bit of a contrast but it makes for some good music.”
