The Indian Prog Rock/Post-Rock band IOISH is proud to announce that its new single “What You Need It
For” will be released on September 21! Watch the official video on the band’s YouTube channel:
The band offered a mini-interview:
Hi, how are you?
“I am doing great, pretty excited for the songs release! hope you all are good!“
Your new single ‘What You Need It For’ is a weave of guitars with atmospheric textures, how would you describe your sound?
“Thank you listening and paying attention to the song! well, ioish’s sound is a mix of soulful guitars layered with atmospheric textures that are soaked in melodious grooves and riffs evoking a progressive rock feel. The combined elements make for an immersive and moody journey for the listener. I want people to think for themselves that is the reason why I dont have vocals in my songs“
The track features Meredith More as a guest, what did you add to the sound and composition?
“Meredith is a great French Horn player, shes worked with huge artists like Paul McCartney and has also played with the Royal Orchestra. I composed the whole structure of the song and sent it to her so she could add her charm to it. You can hear what a great job shes done with it!“
Is the single part of a full-length or is it a stand-alone track?
“It is a track off our upcoming album called “In Waves”. The album will also come in waves, 3 parts The first part has 3 songs on it. Radiance has been out since a while and is doing pretty well! As I have a dayjob, I need time to earn and spend it back on music thats why things are a bit slow.“
Do you have plans for live dates in the near future?
“Ah not yet, As I am planning to play shows that give the full audio visual experience to the audience, I am working on the live visual set as well. I am a huge fan of Amon Tobin so something along the lines of of ISAM“
“What You Need It For” is about those little things in life that put the light into you and make you want to get out of your bed in the morning. As the mastermind Vaibhav Bhutani stated:
“It could be something as simple as a paintbrush that you bought the other day but didn’t get around to
using it, or as impactful as that instrument you always wanted but you never got to it because you were
worried with something else that probably isn’t even a part of you anymore. It’s about respecting the
essence of the tiny details that people usually take for granted but don’t realise that those details/things
usually paint the bigger picture in the long term.”
IOISH’s sound is a mix of soulful guitars layered with atmospheric textures that are soaked in melodious
grooves and riffs evoking a Progressive Rock feel. The combined elements create an immersive and moody trip that the audience can immediately engage with. Over the years the band played with the likes of Tides From Nebula, I Am Waiting For You Last Summer, The Ocean Collective, Intervals and As I Lay Dying during their Indian tours.
The project’s founder Vaibhav Bhutani works in the music industry from 18 years. He started producing
music 12 years ago, then he composed music for all Viacom 18 channels including Discovery Channel. After parting Viacom, Bhutani got a degree in sound therapy.
“What You Need It For” was produced by Vaibhav Bhutani, mixed and mastered by Brett Caldas-Lima
(Ayreon, Devin Townsend, SepticFlesh, Between The Buried And Me). The horn section was composed
and performed by Meredith Moore, who plays with giants like Paul McCartney, The Royal Orchestra, and
she composed for a number of Pixar movies.
