Stonebride starts pre-orders for their new album “Smiles Revolutionary” with the single “Turn Back” and announces a concert promotion on May 30th at MoÄvara!
Damir Batarelo on the new studio album by Stonebride, “Smiles Revolutionary,” says: āGrowing up is a strange process in which we learn to respect differences by building our own paradigms within which we continue to resonate and with which we gradually merge in order to prosper. However, the situation changes significantly when part of that cycle is marked by working in a band. After a full 18 years, the members become brothers, best friends, and at one point in their ācareerā that turning point happens when everything comes together. The riffs blend with the fingers as an extension of thought. The rhythm section breaks down until it plays what it wants, and the personal lyric hits the mark all the way. In such an environment, a new studio work was created by the Zagreb heavyweights Stonebride who, after six long years of record silence, finally attacked all the senses with six new songs that make up their new full-length album ‘Smiles Revolutionary‘.”
Taking bits and pieces from their previous efforts, “Smiles Revolutionary” takes us on a journey through a different kind of Heavy sound. Stoner Rock hid between the Heavy Psych approach and upgraded itself so as not to remain forever in the domain of fuzz and aesthetics that defined the genre. On this material, we hear all the elements that the band is (re)known for, and nothing of the ingredients is missing. In that creative process, Stonebride rediscovered the flame that some may have missed with, for example, on their last two musical works. You could say that “Smiles Revolutionary” is their most personal material and in a way (at least for now) represents the bandās magnum opus, if we can even think in that direction.
The personal lyric turns into the political, we are lost and looking for each other even though we are already on the threshold of middle age. The band hits high again. It uses its past as a motivation for the future, builds up the slowness with atmosphere, and itās as if the members played with each other, completely exposing their own ambitions and hopes.
“Turn Back” was chosen as the first song and a small hint of the new material. A song that at its core talks about realizing oneās inner strength, searching for meaning in a meaningless world, resisting imposed norms, and selfless love for oneās neighbor.
Stonebride was formed way back in 2005, intoxicated by the sounds of the emerging stoner doom scene with the mission of playing as many concerts and tours as possible. They rode hard on the roads all over Europe and opened or shared stages with many giants of the genre, but the fierce slowdowns from the beginning were slowly upgraded with new influences, Dark Psychedelia became their best friend, but also the sounds of growing up Alternative Rock in the 90ās were also found their place among their songs. On the last mini-album “Animals On Display,” released in 2018, they were even more melodic than usual and then took a break. Concerts are rare in Zagreb, tours were also left aside because the new songs were in the stage of creation, recording, and production for almost three years.
