Formed in 2023, Bakelit is the brainchild of acclaimed composer and keyboardist Carl Westholm (Carptree, Jupiter Society, Krux, Avatarium, Candlemass). Built around a trusted network of long-time collaborators, the group’s sound combines Progressive Art Rock ambition with electronic experimentation, resulting in a sonic identity both daring and cohesive.
Like their 2024 debut “Asleep or Insane,” the new album’s six tracks originated from spontaneous, free-form sessions with unpredictable electronic machinery, later honed into bold, cinematic compositions. Lyrically, “No Fear of Drowning” explores the shadows of the human psyche, framing them as sources of resilience and creative energy.
This release also marks the addition of drummer Jonas Källsbäck (The Night Flight Orchestra, Gathering of Kings), whose dynamic performance adds new depth to Bakelit’s evolving sound.
Carl Westholm’s career highlights include two recent albums with Hollingshead, a key role in Avatarium’s original line-up, and long-running collaborations with Doom Metal icons Candlemass. In 2024, he was named the #3 keyboardist of the year by The Prog Mind.
