Pitch Black Records is happy to announce that legendary Brazilian Doom Metal band The Cross has joined the roster! The band’s second full-length “Act II: Walls of the Forgotten” will be released on May 27, 2022.
The Cross are recognized as the first Doom Metal band in Brazil, founded in Salvador – Bahia by Eduardo “Slayer” Mota in 1990 with a sound and style inspired by bands such as Black Sabbath, Candlemass and Trouble.
In 1992 the band released their first cassette, followed by the first demo in 1993 (“The Fall“) and another demo (“Peregrination“) in 1994. The band then gave themselves a hiatus of about 20 years, to then return in 2015 with the EP “Flames Through Priests,” while the debut album finally arrived in 2017 (“The Cross“). The album was voted one of the 10 best of the decade by Whiplash.
Following a series of EPs, a live album, a single, a split (with 3 other bands) and some line-up changes, 2021 saw the band record their second album which, in the band’s words:
“It describes the new era of The Cross. We feel we have reached the perfect line-up and that this album will show it to the fullest. “Act II” is an album written in the midst of the pandemic, where each member worked separately, and when we first got together, everything worked out great right away. The album deals with a variety of historical and mythological themes, some inspired by Lovecraft and others by our internal disturbances.“
“Act II: Walls of the Forgotten” includes a list of notable guests, such as Albert Bell (Forsaken, Nomad Son), Leo Stivala (Forsaken), Achraf Loudiy (Aeternam) and, last but not least, Aaron Stainthorpe (My Dying Bride).
