After 33 years, German-Australian Progressive Rock legends Ulysses return with their first new studio recording: “Do You Know Her?” — a dramatic and emotionally charged piece that bridges the band’s classic era with its present-day rebirth. Recorded across various studios in Australia and Germany, “Do You Know Her?” begins as a sparse and haunting 6/8 ballad, driven by delicate guitar and restrained percussion, before gradually building into a searing instrumental climax that highlights Mirko Rudnik’s expressive guitar work.
Mirko: “We wanted to kick off this series of releases with a simple, atmospheric track to see if there’d be any response at all. We’ll follow that up with the more adventurous stuff. Eventually, we hope to have one, or perhaps two or three, full-length albums – provided there’s enough interest in our new material.”
Lyrically, the song tells the tangled story of a man and a woman. It begins with a woman he didn´t know; by the end, and ends with onde he knews all too well. From Salome to Phyllis Dietrichson, from seduction to betrayal. From a dream to a nightmare. It´s not a new story, it´s been around for 5,000 years, ever since Eve deceived Adam and damned us all to sin, unhappiness and death.
There are bits and pieces of it to be found in the Bible, Oscar Wilde, John Milton, Double Indemnity, and Gerard Hynes’ own sad trivial tale of love, life and loss.
Originally written during the summer of 1993 by Ender Kilic and Gerard Hynes, the track narrowly missed inclusion on the band’s acclaimed debut album Neronia. Nevertheless, it quickly became a centerpiece of Ulysses’ live performances during their 1994 European tour, earning a reputation as a fan favorite – particularly during the Polish concerts, where audiences embraced the song passionately. At a performance in Zabrze’s Dom Muzyki i Tańca on May 6, 1994, FOH engineer Andy Brooks famously remarked after the show:
“That was the best song of the evening.”
“Of our set?”
“Of the entire concert.”
More than two decades later, Gerard Hynes revisited and rewrote the song’s final verse in 2017, bringing a deeper sense of reflection and emotional closure to the lyrics. During the final stages of production, producers Mirko Rudnik and Robert Zoom took the bold decision to radically reshape parts of the arrangement, giving the song the powerful dynamic form it has today. “Do You Know Her?” stands not only as a long-awaited new release, but as a bridge between the spirit of classic Ulysses and the band’s new creative chapter.

— About the Band —
Ulysses emerged from the southern suburbs of Frankfurt in the late 1980s, founded by school friends Mirko Rudnik and Ender Kilic with a shared passion for the grand tradition of British Progressive Rock. Blending ambitious songwriting, emotional storytelling, and virtuoso musicianship, the band quickly developed a unique identity within the European Prog scene. Their 1993 debut album Neronia, recorded at Thin Ice Studios in London with producers Clive Nolan and Karl Groom, became a cult favorite among progressive rock fans and featured guest vocals by Tracy Hitchings.
Ulysses toured Europe extensively in 1994, including celebrated performances alongside Pendragon and acclaimed appearances in Poland, Germany, and the Netherlands. Over the years, “Neronia” achieved lasting recognition and culminating in a remastered 30th anniversary edition in 2023. Today, original members Mirko Rudnik, Robert Zoom, and Gerard Hynes have reunited, bringing the spirit of the original band into a new era. “Do You Know Her?” marks the first new studio recording from the Ulysses camp in over three decades — and signals that the kingdom of Ulysses is rising once again.
