Together with Saint Vitus and Pentagram, The Obsessed belong to the forefathers of US Doom. Singer and guitarist Scott “Wino” Weinrich, who also sang with Saint Vitus for years, is one of the forefathers of the Stoner and Doom scene.
The Obsessed emerged from the band Warhorse at the end of the seventies. Their sound was initially very influenced by the Stooges, Black Sabbath and Blue Cheer. Over the years, however, the Heavy influences dominate and The Obsessed become pioneers of the genres Doom Metal and Stoner Rock.
The Obsessed are an absolute bank – especially when it comes to fat, slow riffs, both in the studio and live. The band has had an extremely turbulent history, with numerous releases and line-up changes. The band has also completely disbanded twice, and in 2017 the successful comeback album “Sacred” was released after a 23-year studio break. The Foo Fighters covered The Obsessed song “Iron & Stone” in 2000.
