Christoph “Lupus” Lindemann, Simon “Dragon” Bouteloup and Christoph “Tiger” Bartelt not only look like they’ve fallen out of time, they sound like it too. Yet Berlin’s Kadavar only arrived on the hard rock market in 2010.
A wild mixture of Stoner, Psychedelic, Doom, Kraut and Hard Rock makes the music of these Berlin high-flyers particularly appealing. Or is it their bell-bottom trousers and beards? In any case, retro is particularly important to the guys from Kadavar. This applies just as much to their stage performances as it does to their recordings. Kadavar work exclusively with original equipment from the seventies in order to fulfil the demands for a perfect vintage sound. Their music quickly conjures up associations with bands such as Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin and Hawkwind.
After forming, the trio quickly had to get used to their own success – and to the pressure from outside. “Kadavar,” their self-titled debut from 2012, was already sold out before its release. They followed it up after just a few weeks. Since then, Lupus, Tiger and Dragon have continued their meteoric rise.
