Since the great successes of Kyuss or Queens Of The Stone Age, Stoner Rock has been a firmly established genre. The four-piece Clutch from the small town of Germantown in Maryland have been celebrating it since 1990.
Although Clutch come from the rather green and idyllic US state of Maryland, their hard and Bluesy Stoner Rock sounds as if they had learned their trade in the hot and dry desert of Arizona. They started out with a very hard, uncompromising sound that earned them comparisons with bands like Helmet.
Wild beat changes are still something Clutch like to play, but their version of Stoner Rock has become a bit more varied over the years. The metallic riffs now alternate with Bluesy and Jazzy elements. Thanks to singer Neil Fallon‘s incredibly raw and deep organ, Clutch always sound organic and honest, never like mere “music for musicians.”
At Clutch‘s concerts, sweating is guaranteed – for the band as well as the audience.
