Brutus, the band led by singing drummer Stefanie Mannaerts, doesn’t fit into the Classic Metal mould. Their sound oscillates between Rock, Metal, Hardcore and Pop and is another example of the enormous creative output of Belgium as a music country.
Drummer and singer Stefanie Mannaerts, guitarist Stijn Vanhoegarden and bassist Peter Mulders founded Brutus together in 2013. All three had already gained a lot of band experience in the lively Leuven music scene. After gaining live experience at various festivals such as Pukkelpop and Rock Herk, the band released their debut album “Burst” in 2017 after three EPs.
Well-known musicians such as Greg Puciato (The Dillinger Escape Plan) and Riley Breckenridge (Thrice) declared themselves fans shortly afterwards, which attracted a lot of attention. “Nest” was released in 2019, followed by a US tour, including a gig at the Deftones Festival.
A live album was released during the pandemic, followed by “Unison Life” in 2022. In 2023, Brutus played at festivals such as Roadburn, Rock am Ring, Pinkpop and many others.
