The band states:
When writing Alma’s Cove we were trying to create a lush green peaceful place wherein we could let go of all the stress of everyday life. Playing Alma’s Cove in Preveli Gorge felt surreal and hearing the rustling of palm leaves swaying in the wind and water gently flowing by made the performance feel incredibly connected to the surroundings. We hope you enjoy watching it as much as we enjoyed making it!
In order to get the perfect shots for the ambient parts our amazing director Tom Ewbank had brought a little inflatable boat in which he ferried around the precious cargo of Paul Hines and a camera for the better part of an hour. Tom was submerged in the water walking around pushing the boat all around the gorge. It was only when he came back out of the water our fixer Vangelis Pantelis told Tom “by the way I didn’t want to tell you before but there are loads of snakes in the water” Everyone except Tom thought that was hilarious!
We want to express our deepest gratitude to everyone on the team—not only for doing their job to an incredible standard, but also for carrying literally tons of gear up and down mountains, cooking early breakfasts and late-night dinners, and always being the nicest group of people to be around.
4-piece instrumental band Yuuf release a new EP “Alma’s Cove,” their debut release on Ninja Tune’s Technicolour imprint.
Spanning 5 tracks, ‘Alma’s Cove’ is a meditative soundscape which takes the listener on a sonic journey through nature, connection and togetherness away from the stresses of day-to-day life. “Alma’s Cove is a dreamy tropical space free from stress, where you can feel content and present. A sheltered paradise to enjoy at your own leisure” the band comment. “When writing the EP the main goal was to create a space that’s the complete opposite of our London life: stress, anxiety, overwhelm. Reconnect to nature and enjoy the present. A dreamland”
Alongside the EP announcement Yuuf shared the record’s title track “Alma’s Cove”. Rich with organic textures, shimmering details and psychedelic rhythms, the single invites the audience into the serene world of Alma’s Cove. “The listener is walking around and taking in nature, the sounds, and the views and reveling in its natural beauty”. The single arrives with an official music video, showcasing a full live session filmed during the band’s recent trip to Crete.
Mixing international sounds and global influences is central to Yuuf’s ethos. Even its members all hail from different parts of the world – Switzerland, Denmark, France and England. “We naturally blend our diverse musical tastes from around the world to shape the sound of our music”. ‘Alma’s Cove’ is a prime example of this, inspired by classical Spanish guitar, Americana soundscapes and the music of Studio Ghibli.
