Guangzhou-based instrumental quartet Zhaoze have shared an official live video for “In Snow Storm, Yet Not Back Home,” captured during their performance at the Wenzhou Dalu Youth Music Festival on the last night of 2025. The track serves as the centrepiece of their latest EP, released on October 23, 2025 via their own Bandcamp.

The EP — titled “In Snow Storm, Yet Not Back Home” — features two compositions that form a deliberate narrative arc. “Wind Rising Before Storm Coming (Quartet)” is a reimagined, four-member version of a piece originally appearing on their previous album “No Answer Blowin’ in the Wind,” expanded from a sparse two-person sketch into a full band arrangement. “In Snow Storm, Yet Not Back Home” is the long-promised sequel to that piece, sharing its melodic DNA while standing as a fully independent composition at six and a half minutes.
A third track, “Wind Rising… In Snow Storm, Yet Not Back Home,” presents both pieces as a single continuous work — two chapters that function independently or as one cohesive statement.
Notably, “In Snow Storm, Yet Not Back Home” marks a rare departure from the guqin — the ancient Chinese instrument that has defined Zhaoze’s self-coined “Splashed-ink Rock” style — with Haoliang returning to his Telecaster guitar. Despite the absence of the guqin, the track retains the unmistakable ancient Chinese resonance that runs through everything the band creates.
At the Dalu Festival, Zhaoze also performed an extended rendition of “Birds Contending” — over thirty minutes in length — underscoring their reputation as one of the most compelling live acts in contemporary progressive and post-rock.
