The Abrams‘ story began in 2013 and have since released one Ep and 3 fell-lengths, exploring Heavy Rock sounds between Stoner, Psychedelia and Alternative. The new album “In The Dark” was released on September 09, 2022 via Small Stone Recordings and contains 11 tracks including a bonus. The sound on offer throughout the tracks blends a heavy attitude with Alternative, Grunge and Stoner sounds. Powerful guitar riffs and solid rhythm sections already immerse us in this kind of atmosphere in the opener “Like Hell” and the following “Death Tripper.” The vocals alternate between more melodic and more aggressive parts and interpret the lyrics with dynamism. The guitar is at the centre of the melodies and adds a heavy touch to the sound, where the tempo changes and granite rhythm section give the album its imprint. The tracklist features “Better Living,” a track that combines more melodic stretches, increasing in intensity as the minutes go by. “In the Clouds,” on the other hand, enhances a harder and more metal facet of the band’s sound, while the following “Fever Dreams” explores more modern sounds, interweaving melodic openings and Heavy riffs. “Body Pillow” offers a mixture of metal guitars and more ethereal atmospheres somewhere between Post and Psychedelic Rock. The more Alternative side is found in the following “Leather Jacket,” with more elaborate guitar textures and a rhythm section, then opening into melodic and engaging refrains, with a slight dark touch. Continuing on the sound of its predecessor, “White Sand” combines alternative, modern and fresh traits and excellent guitar work with a deep, driving bass line. The title track “In the Dark” is a song that develops with a constant musical crescendo, very intense combining heavy riffs and melodic parts with exceptional technique. With its tight rhythm, enriched by continuous tempo changes, “Black Tar Mountain” is an engaging track with sophisticated melodies at the same time. The album ends with the bonus track “East Coast Dreams,” where heavy rock merges with alternative and the guitar offers very interesting work and an intense cue in the finale. A band that manages to be appreciated for its genre-blending, managing to mix different styles with its own personal touch. The sounds are modern and fresh with original traits, solid and elaborate rhythm sections, guitar work always incisive and at the heart of the project, dynamic and expressive vocals. An enjoyable listen from start to finish, with a tracklist that always keeps the intensity and quality of the tracks high.
