Acid Rooster are a German band from Liezpig that plays Instrumental Psychedelic/Kratrock/Space Rock. The new album “Hall Of Mirrors” was released on October 25, 2024 via Tonzonen Records/Little Cloud Records/Cardinal Fuzz containing four long tracks, ranging from almost 6 to 14 minutes. The album opens with “Automat,” an energetic and engaging track that immediately immerses us in the band’s musical atmosphere. A solid and elaborate rhythm section, with a deep and load-bearing bass line, good guitar work and continuous tempo changes allow the central theme of the track to develop. All instruments are enhanced through the refined instrumental textures that characterise the sound, with the guitar playing the lead role in the solo cues. The longest track on the album, “Chandelier Arp,” an epic exceeding 14 minutes, features an introductory part with dilated, ethereal sounds. The intensity increases as the minutes pass and the track evolves, layering the guitar melodies to create a prolonged instrumental section with a psychedelic and space imprint. In a continuous musical crescendo, the band incorporates modern elements to a classic Space and Psychedelic sound with their own personal touch, exploring the different facets that characterise their style. This interesting and enjoyable cosmic journey is developed by exploiting the entire duration of the track to develop the band’s musical concept and enhance the compositional and performing technique of the artists involved. “Confidence of Ignorance” is another long track of over 10 minutes, with a slow-moving rhythm section at the opening. The interweaving guitar and keyboard create dark atmospheres that envelop the listener, then increase in intensity as the song progresses. A track with mystical sounds, a lysergic journey enriched by a skilful use of effect modulations. The album ends with “When Clouds Part,” with ethereal, dilated opening sounds, dreamy guitar arpeggios and a delicate rhythm section. Soft, delicate and enveloping, the track gently concludes the listening of this good album, with layers and ethereal atmospheres that leave us wanting to listen to the album again in the future. A good album, entirely instrumental, through which the band explores the different facets that characterise their style. Between Psychedelia, Space Rock, Kraut and Shoegaze, the band manages to create its own style that interweaves these different genres through interesting instrumental phrasing and sophisticated solo inserts. A recommended listen for all lovers of modern Psychedelia sounds with forays into Space, confirming the good things heard on previous releases.
