Chris Burda, co-founder of the instrumental Post-Rock duo Collapse Under The Empire, returns with a new project born from a creative pause of the main act: Age Of Life. The stated goal is to explore Post-Rock sounds contaminated by Electronica, giving life to a long-term concept work centered on time, transformation, and evolution. The thematic journey spans 542 million years of Earth’s history, from the first forms of life to the present and beyond. The debut EP, “Coalescence Phase I,” released on June 26, 2026, marks only the beginning of a broader cycle: monthly singles, a second EP, and two interconnected albums will follow, “Emergence Part I” (October 2026) and “Transformation Part II” (May 2027). The EP consists of four tracks that act as true emotional windows in time. “Epoch One,” the opening track, lays the foundations for the journey through the eras: electronic sonorities merge with the cinematic traits of Post-Rock, giving shape to a sound that takes the genre’s stylistic hallmarks and enriches them with a power generated by a rhythm section infused with electronic and modern elements. A track that demonstrates a skillful ability to unite distant genres and styles, finding their perfect meeting point. “Cambrian Pulse” is a direct reference to the explosion of life in the Cambrian period, built around a rhythm that recalls the primordial heartbeat of life itself. After a purely electronic and overwhelming entrance, the track evolves by developing electronic melodic textures and a rhythm section that unites that primordial vital heartbeat with the power of Rock. The Electronic textures flow like lifeblood through the veins of the piece, a concentrate of emotional charge and of that explosion that only life can generate. The Cinematic traits expand the melodies, intertwining and alternating with the powerful rhythm section in a true vital heartbeat. With “Pelagic Drift” the atmospheres become more fluid and dilated in the melodies, tied to the drift in the primordial oceans. The rhythm section moves over Electronic architectures and fine interweavings between acoustic rhythms, giving life to a track that expands its own melodies as the piece evolves, almost representing the drifting apart of continental plates and the pelagic movement itself. The track culminates in a strongly cinematic melodic crescendo, with synth sonorities that expand and evolve the theme, before closing on an intense emotional charge and Electronic melodies. “Reef Consciousness” is the lead single accompanying the EP’s release, a mix of Electronic textures and ethereal, soundtrack-like vibrations. A track built on fine melodic layering and forays into dilated, Cinematic Post-Rock sonorities, with keyboard carpets and Cinematic and Symphonic openings that culminate in a refined and elaborate Post-Rock, pleasantly accompanying us toward the finale of this first, intense chapter. “Coalescence – Phase I” is not just an EP, but an excellent starting point for understanding the artist’s musical evolution in this new project. Recommended for those who love Post-Rock that isn’t afraid to contaminate itself with Electronica, and for those seeking an immersive and narrative listening experience. An invitation to our readers to follow the project’s evolution: being the first EP of a broader cycle, each song represents a state of being within a vast temporal mosaic, and it will be interesting to observe the stylistic evolutions to come.
