Amon Acid are a power trio hailing from Leed, UK, offering Doom sounds between Rock and Metal, steeped in Psychedelia. The new album “Submerging” was released on May 09, 2024 and contains 6 long tracks including an epic of over 11 and one of 13 minutes in length. The opener “Toad Venom” opens with dark atmospheres and deep sounds, heavy guitar riffs and a granitic rhythm section that gives body to the song. The band immediately plunges us into the sound of the album, a solid doom metal drenched in psychedelic passages and a piercing vocal enriched by effects. Well-constructed guitar riffs and synth work add a sombre touch to the sound, exploring the darker side of modern Doom Metal. The album’s shortest track “Crawling Chaos” opens with an eerie synth in the intro, then develops a sound built around heavy guitar riffs and a monolithic rhythm section. The vocals are enveloping, while the tempo changes add value to the song’s structure. “TetrahydronW is an epic track over 13 minutes in length that explores all the band’s musical facets, offering granitic Doom Metal. A heavy and well-constructed guitar riff drives the melodies, while the rhythm section offers solid drumming and a killer bassline, deep and driving. The effects-enhanced vocals add a Psychedelic touch to the sound, reminiscent of the vocals of bands like Monolord. A long journey through Doom Metal sounds, the band skilfully combines tradition with a personal touch and interesting synth work that envelops the listener. The title-track “Submerging” opens with intertwining synths and guitar arpeggios, creating an Atmospheric sound through modulations and effects. With the entry of instruments, the band develops a deep Doom sound with choral parts in the background and fine guitar inserts. A track permeated by mystical sounds and occult atmospheres, with a pachydermic rhythm and distorted guitar and synth riffs intertwining. “Dr Bliss” gets right to the heart of the matter with granitic doom metal built around scratchy distorted guitar riffs, an enveloping vocal, and rhythmic tempo changes. Between continuous changes of intensity and openings where the guitar is the protagonist, the track flows, lulling the listener at times and then unleashing the full power of the band. The album ends with “Egomania,” another epic over 11 minutes long, which opens with another excellent guitar work on the riffs, sharp as a razor blade. The tempo changes are an added bonus, allowing you to move from more Psychedelic moments to openings where the band inserts elements of Doom Metal. The guitar solo inserts and keyboards in the background offer markedly personal stylistic solutions, allowing the central theme of the song to be developed by exploiting the long duration of the piece in its entirety. Another good release for this band, which confirms the good things heard previously. The sound is granitic, offering a mixture of Doom Metal with forays into Psychedelia. The addition of keyboards is interesting, which certainly adds stylistic solutions in the construction of the tracks and the development of the themes. A recommended listen for lovers of Doom Metal sounds with forays into Stoner, for a fresh and modern album with markedly personal traits.
