The band from Helsinki, Finland Danakil Heat comes to the scene with a mixture of Stoner and Heavy Metal sounds. The debut EP “Life on the Green Planet” was self-released on February 13, 2025 and contains four tracks between four and almost five minutes long. A granitic rhythm section and solid guitar riffs characterise opener “Back to the Fire,” a heavy track that immediately shows us the band’s imprint. An incisive vocal alternates with instrumental parts, all permeated with Stoner and Heavy Metal, with forays into Groove. In the middle part, an interesting instrumental section highlights the guitar, before returning to the central theme and concluding with the last vocal stanzas. The album’s longest track “Stoner Coder” features good guitar work with engaging riffs in the opening, deep bass lines characterise the rhythm section. The tempo changes add value to the structure of the track, with the drumming increasing in intensity, offering a solid test. The vocals are dynamic and expressive, adding incisiveness to the song, which well represents the band’s style, maintaining a Heavy approach and creating engaging passages. “Doom mooD,” is the βshortestβ on the album, still running over four minutes. Gloomy sounds characterise the track’s atmospheres, with a bass line giving body to the track and pachydermic drumming outlining its more Doom Metal structure. The lead guitar interventions and continuous tempo changes are interesting, making the piece original and showing the different facets of the band’s sound. In the second part, the sound shifts to a more Stoner and Groove Metal style, always keeping the intensity very high. The album termian with βLife on the Green Planet,β a track that brings us back to stoner sounds in their most Punk version. Incisive vocal parts, rough guitar work and a solid rhythm section that with its accelerations takes the track into different territories from the previous tracks. A debut that shows us all the intensity of this band’s sound, energetic and engaging but with darker passages and forays into early-era Stoner. A recommended listen for lovers of heavy sounds, with a good mixture of Stoner, Doom and Groove Metal, incisive and powerful.
