The Brazilian band Fohatt was formed in 2021, offering a Doom sound with atmospheric traits, double vocals, both male and female, and a dark touch provided by keyboards. The debut EP “Ancient Ritual Of The Season” was released on July 01, 2024 and contains 2 long tracks. The opener “Occult Presence” is characterised by an atmospheric keyboard intro and dark touch, with the entry of instruments the band develops the song with heavy riffs and female vocals. The rhythm section moves slowly, while male growl vocals counterbalance the melodic female vocals. After a first part with distorted, piercing sounds, in the second part guitar arpeggios create very delicate dreamy atmospheres. Returning to the central theme of the song, the band concludes in a crescendo.Heavy guitar riffs intertwine with keyboards in “Memories of a Dawn,” where the combination of male and female vocals alternately interpret the lyrics. The atmospheres are dark and restless in this track, with interesting keyboard cues and growl vocals adding aggression to the song. More metal than the previous one, it concludes this EP with a granitic and atmospheric sound, more Doom Metal with markedly dark traits. Two tracks that show the band’s attitude and their Doom Metal imprinting with forays into more extreme Metal vocally. Dark atmospheres permeate the two tracks, with that touch of the occult proper to the genre. Heavy guitar riffs, the rhythm section is solid and the keyboards certainly add something to the sound. A listen that anticipates the release of their debut album at the end of 2024, offering us two tracks of Atmospheric Doom with Dark traits that bode well for the first full-length.
