Home Brewed Universe is an Indian one-man band by multi-instrumentalist Arka Sengupta with several EP singles and albums to his credit. The new full-length “Nightmares” was released on August 29, 2022 and contains 12 short-lived tracks in which the artist takes care of all the phases from composition, recording to mastering. An album that combines different genres and styles attributable to Prog and beyond, united by the personal touch of the artist, skilled in mixing traditional and modern sounds. The intertwining of guitar and keyboards are supported by a mainly electronic drumming, which gives a modern imprinting to the sound. Cinematic atmospheres and the guitar and keyboard solo inserts are the most classic component of the record, while the rhythm sessions give a touch of innovation to the work. Arka explores and offers different sounds than the previous albums, departing from the traditional Prog Rock, managing to offer an original listening. Although the tracks are short, they are entirely instrumental, allowing the artist to develop his search for new sounds throughout the album. The Heavy traits are more contained, favoring the soundscapes and the development of the tracks, experimenting more with new genres and styles than the traditional Prog Metal sounds. While not having a common theme, the tracks have compositions that follow the same musical ideas. An interesting, fresh record with modern and markedly personal sounds, with the artist showing a good technique to all the tools and well-developed ideas. A listening recommended for lovers of the most modern and unconventional Prog sounds with forays into Post-Rock and with electronic sounds that blend with the more classic guitar and keyboard sounds.
