Lamp of the Universe is a Psychedelic and Acid Folk project from Hamilton, New Zealand formed in 1999. The new album “Enters Your Somas” features Dr. Space and contains 2 epic tracks of over 18 minutes each. The first side of the album contains the suite “Enters Your Somas,” which is over 18 minutes long and features a prolonged atmospheric intro. The intensity increases as the minutes go by and the theme of the song develops through the solo guitar inserts and fine keyboard work. The rhythm section is solid and elaborate, with sophisticated drumming that allows this long song to develop through psychedelic twists and atmospheres. Lysergic atmospheres permeate the track, with the distorted guitar giving a fuzzy touch to the sound. A long journey full of elaborate cues and passages and a massive dose of Psychedelia that envelops and accompanies the listener. The album’s second track, “Infiltrates Your Mind,” slightly longer, clocking in at over 19 minutes, after a short intro starts off immediately strong. Distorted guitar riffs, accelerated drumming and fine keyboard work lend an electronic touch to the sound. A mixture of Psychedelia and Space Rock, both in the rhythm and in the choice of sounds, evolving in the middle part into a sophisticated Experimental instrumental section. After exploring more avant-garde electronic keyboard sounds, it rotates with the frenetic rhythm section and Psychedelic Space sounds of the first part and the track ends in a musical crescendo. An album that incorporates and blends elements of classic Psychedelic Rock, Space Rock and Experimental Rock through these long, intense and engaging tracks. Interesting keyboard work adds stylistic solutions to the sound, with the guitar playing a leading role both in well-constructed riffs and in long solo interventions. The rhythm section is solid and elaborate, allowing these long instrumental plots to develop in jam session style. A recommended listen for all lovers of classic Psychdelic Rock sounds, developed through two long epic tracks full of ideas and with forays into Space Rock.
