[Review] Las Fuerzas Extrañas – Ensayo Atómico EP

Las Fuerzas Extrañas is a power trio from Córdoba, Argentina that offers sounds halfway between Progressive Rock and Psychedelia. The dedbut EP “Ensayo Atómico” was released on October 18, 2024 and contains five tracks ranging from 4 to over 7 minutes long. Guitar arpeggios enriched by effects open “El Manantial,” a long track of over six minutes developed around guitar work and layering in the melodies, over which a dynamic vocal is inserted. Enriched by tempo changes, the track mixes Psychedelia, Garage and forays into Prog with a personal character. The instrumental sections are interesting, allowing the band to freely explore the different facets that characterise their style. The title-track “Ensayo Atómico,” which we got to know as the band’s first single released in July 2024. A repeated, hypnotic bass line characterises the body of the track, over which the guitar offers a prolonged solo section with layering and modulation of sounds. The drumming is solid and punctuates the tempo of this constant musical crescendo that incorporates more Heavy elements as the minutes go by. A prolonged instrumental section with the guitar in great prominence accompanies us throughout the second part of the track until the finale. “Eclipse” opens with ethereal guitar sounds, then develops a more Heavy sound, exploring a more Stoner, fresh and modern side. The band’s personal touch remains intact, incorporating more aggressive elements than in previous tracks. Good guitar work and the rhythm section is gritty with solid drumming and deep, load-bearing bass lines. The vocals are enveloping and dynamic and alternate well with the instrumental sections, which enhance the guitar solo cues. Dark, Heavy riffs and a slower rhythm section accompany us towards the finale. The shortest track in duration “Nuestro Amo Juega Al Esclavo,” closes the EP. A mixture of Heavy Psych, Argentine Rock and good interlacing of more melodic vocals and intense, elaborate instrumental sections. An engaging and more straightforward and accessible track, concluding the tracklist with a more melodic but pleasant touch. An interesting EP, which shows how the band tries to come up with its own sound by incorporating elements of Psychedelia, Post-Rock and Prog. The path and attitude are right, the tracklist is interesting and bodes well for future record releases. A recommended listen for lovers of modern Psychedelic Rovck sounds with long instrumental stretches and the guitar taking centre stage.
