Nazca Space Fox is an instrumental power trio of Space, Desert, Psychedelic & Post-Rock from Germany, formed in 2014. The new album “Ceres” was released on September 27, 2024 via Tonzonen Records and contains five long tracks between 5 and over 14 minutes long. The opener “Weltraumwind” slowly immerses us in the album’s sounds, between solid rhythm sections with a deep, load-bearing bass line and guitar work enriched by effects and layering. An enveloping sound, managing to create engaging atmospheres thanks also to the tempo changes and guitar solo inserts. Skilful the band continually evolving the central theme of the song, managing to incorporate and explore elements of different genres and styles with their personal touch. The guitar is prominent in the solo cues, prolonged and always very refined. Granitic guitar riffs open “The Parrot,” showing a more classic rock side of the band, for an energetic and punchy passage of the record. Retro traits are mixed with modern ones thanks to the original and personal imprinting given by the trio, evolving the theme of the song by incorporating Post-Rock elements to the sound, steeped in modern Psychedelia and with refined guitar work. As per its title, “Quiet” opens with dreamy guitar arpeggios, soft and delicate, then develops with beautifully crafted guitar layering. We return to a more psot-rock context with the intensity increasing as the song goes on, and with the guitar playing the lead role in both riffs and solo cues. In the finale, the band accelerates with a change and adds more Heavy elements to the sound. Dilated, ethereal sounds open “Watching The Weather Change,” which explores Post-Rock sounds with an original imprint given by the band’s personal style. Rich guitar textures, layering and fine use of modulations. The rhythm section is solid and elaborate and allows the song and central theme to develop through the long duration, enhancing the band’s compositional technique. The album ends with the epic track “Echo Control Device,” which is over 14 minutes long and opens with soft guitar arpeggios and gentle drumming. Between tempo changes and refined phrasing, the band incorporates heavy, psychedelic elements into their characteristic Post-Rock, managing to explore all the facets that characterise their original and personal style. A well-constructed track that alternates heavy passages with soft openings and atmospheric, ethereal sounds, leaving us wanting to listen to this good album again in the future. A band that confirms the good things heard previously, offering another modern and fresh listen with a distinctly personal sound. Between Post-Rock, Psychedelia and a modern instrumental sound, this album and its tracklist are enjoyable from start to finish. A recommended listen for all lovers of new Post-Rock sounds with forays into Psychedelia. Really good work.
