[Review] Partner – Green to Gold

Partner is an American Progressive Rock band with strong RIO influences. The group has been active since 2014, when they recorded their album “Green To Gold,” which was released on November 19, 2021 via X! Records. An intense record with many shades that combines the essence of 70s sounds between Canterbury Scene and Avant-garde, managing to bring them into the present with a personal touch. Complex plots, an intricate rhythmic session enriched by continuous tempo changes that allow the keyboards and winds to model elaborate and very technical melodies. Each song has its own identity and the band is skilled in mixing different styles and genres with forays into Krautrock, Prog with Jazzy and Avant-garde nuances, always keeping the quality of the compositions very high. A disc that at first listen certainly has a positive and engaging impact, the nuances of which can be grasped in subsequent listenings. The artists involved also have experience in other projects and are able to add their own personal touch to the tracks, creating a rich and original sound. A listening recommended to all lovers of avant-garde sounds, but which, given the numerous facets contained within it, will be able to capture the attention of the Prog audience in general. We hope that this is finally the beginning and that the band can propose other releases also in the future, although we have listened to here, the bases for other interesting listening are all there. The album is a concentrate of technique, with intricate passages and very interesting and well developed ideas. The sound is centered on the intertwining between saxophone and keyboards, enriched by effects and with a very elaborate rhythmic session and supporting bass lines. The vocal part is also intense and 70s-style, dynamic and suited to the music proposed in the album.
