Pinn Dropp is a band that offers Progressive Rock with Heavy traits that is establishing itself as one of the best bands of the genre from Poland. Thanks to their debut and to some EP and singles the band showed good technique in the composition and execution phase with refined and elaborate plots. “… Calling from Some Far Forgotten Land” is an EP released on December 23, 2021 and contains 4 tracks between 2 and over 8 minutes in duration. The opener “The Call” is the shortest track, and opens with atmospheric sounds on which an electric guitar and a narrated vocal are inserted. The intensity increases and introduces us to listening to the following “Vortex” already listened to as a single with official video. A dreamy piano opens the piece, which develops with a solid rhythmic session and valuable intertwining of guitar and keyboards, enriched by tempo changes and a very warm and expressive vocal with engaging choral parts. In continuous evolution, it combines more Prog Rock features with a rhythmic session with tight passages, between accelerations and intricate fills and a pleasant guitar solo in the central instrumental section. The vocal returns for the last verse and in the finale the track closes with an intense musical crescendo. An intertwining of bass and a guitar arpeggio opens “Cluster,” the longest track with over 8 minutes in length. Softer in the first part, but very elaborate and with the intensity that increases with the passage of the piece, it has an intense and pathos-rich vocal that interprets the piece very well. The passages are refined and the sound is more symphonic than the previous releases, turning into the second part, more pompous with a choral vocal and orchestrations on the keyboard. The band is able to propose a softer but very touching track. The last track of the EP “Always Here” follows the delicate sounds of the previous one in the initial phase with dreamy keyboard melodies and a warm and melodic vocal. The track is very intense and the singing is modeled by adding energy and power in some passages, while the keyboards give a Symphonic Prog touch to the sound. Good phrasing between guitar and keyboard with the solid rhythmic session that gives body to the piece, which ends this listening in a pleasant way. Sometimes you don’t need the power or distortions to create a punchy sound, this is proof of that. Pinn Dropp created a very intense EP with delicate ideas and passages that alternate with more pompous sections, keeping the quality and intensity of the compositions high. A listening recommended for all lovers of more Symphonic Progressive sounds, with long pieces, a passionate vocal and good phrasing between guitar and keyboards on a solid and elaborate rhythmic session. A confirmation for this band that with quality releases is establishing itself as one of the best in recent years in the European Prog scene.
