rýr is an instrumental Post-Metal band with Doom veins formed in Berlin, Germany with two albums to its credit. The new album “transient” was released on October 28, 2022 via Golden Antenna Records and contains five long tracks. Opener “Trajectory” immediately immerses us in the band’s sound with heavy riffs and a solid rhythm section. Atmospheric traits merge with harder ones, leading the listener with passages where the 9ntensity increases and a Dark touch permeates the song. In the middle section, the track offers a softer passage with guitar openings, then evolves the theme with a massive bass line and percussive drumming. In the second part the band unleashes all its power with explosive riffs, concluding with a fine guitar solo. Heavy riffs opening “Derisive” characterised by a granitic sound and a powerful rhythm section with a killer bassline. The first part has a dark character and Post-Metal sounds permeate the track, then in the middle part with a change offer a more atmospheric section. The sound becomes energetic and powerful again in the second part, driven by heavy guitar riffs. “Alienated” is a more intricate track, with numerous tempo changes and a more pronounced presence of atmospheric sounds. Good guitar work intertwines with the penetrating bass lines. The title track shows the more aggressive and sombre side of the band’s sound alternating with atmospheric, dilated openings. The combination of hard riffs and bass lines works very well with heavy, dynamic drumming that is enriched by tempo changes. The longest track “Shattered” concludes the album, with a heavy and sombre first part with granitic guitar riffs. In the middle part, the track becomes softer and with dilated sounds, where the atmospheric component replaces the power of metal with arpeggios and enveloping textures. The track ends with a section where the band returns to its more powerful and expressive sounds, closing in a crescendo. An album that alternates heavy passages with atmospheric and more dilated sounds. Time changes, elaborate textures and well-constructed riffs with a granitic rhythm section enriched by load-bearing bass lines. A recommended listen for all lovers of Post-Metal sounds with atmospheric contaminations, entirely instrumental and an enjoyable journey through the band’s music.
