Tales Of A Liquid Dawn is the moniker of Anthony Yip, English multi-instrumentalist who offers a Progressive Psychedelic Metal sound with Doom influences. The debut album “Morning” was released on March 31, 2022 and contains 8 medium to long length tracks, in which he plays all the instruments. The album opens with the longer track “Hunters” featuring a solid rhythmic session and interlacing of distorted guitars with granite riffs. A mixture of Metal, Prog and Doom sounds that summarize and immediately immerse us in the sound of the disc, enriched by changes and modulations of the sounds. The central part is more atmospheric and intricate, slowing the pace and creating a long section with darker features with solo inserts. The following “Stone Walls (Part I)” is the first part of this mini-suite which opens with clean guitar arpeggios and develops with a deep and melancholic atmosphere. The second part “Stone Walls (Part II)” is heavier and more distorted in the sounds with a granite rhythmic session. The sound here is closer to Doom with good guitar textures and powerful and punchy drumming. After a decidedly more Metal first part, the solo leads us to a second more Psychedelic section with heavy features. “Mask” features decidedly heavy guitar work and intricate drumming. Long guitar solo plots of Psychedelic matrix are the meeting point between Doom Metal and the artist’s more Heavy Psych traits, managing to envelop the listener with his own sound. In the album there is another mini-suite whose first part “The Exile (Part I)” is more Experimental in style with extensive use of effects, making the track atmospheric and spatial. The second part “The Exile (Part II)” is darker and closer to Doom sounds, with heavy guitar riffs and powerful drumming. Here too the sounds are enveloping and the listener is captured in an almost cosmic sound world. In the second part the track softens and changes taking on more Psychedelic and at times acidic connotations with excellent guitar solo works. “The Mask Slips” opens with a monolithic sound, solid drumming and heavy guitar riffs, with good cues and plots. The tempo changes are an added value by modifying and developing the central theme of the track, taking it from darker and heavier moments to other more Metal, always with a Doom attitude. The album ends with “End” with a rhythm that moves slowly and the sound that fits halfway between Doom and Prog Psychedelic. The guitar works are fine and the track is well processed with good long lead inserts that accompany us throughout the duration. A good starting point for this artist who composes and plays all parts of the album, with the guitar at the center of the project. A good point of union between the Doom and Psychedelic sounds with forays into Prog, always with a Heavy air and long instrumental textures. The sound is solid with a sometimes elaborate drumming and heavy riffs that alternate with passages closer to Psychedelic Rock. A good listening for an artist who in the future will surely be able to improve and propose good quality works like this one.
