We are pleased to offer you in this article an interview with a young band offering Prog/Alt-Rock sounds with their debut EP due out in November. Welcome R3VO.
Hi, how are you?
Hi! Leo (vocalist) speaking! I’m doing pretty good today, thank you for asking.
Your genre is a mixture of progressive and alternative rock and metal, where does your passion for these sounds come from?
The four of us really like bands such as Porcupine Tree, Opeth, Karnivool, and RATM, but we all also have different specific preferences in terms of music. I bring some grunge and emo influences, Jan (guitar) some 70s rock, Altair (drums) some djent and hardcore, Victor (bass) some funk. Our music has a bit of everything.
Your debut EP “Fireflies” is due out on November 16, 2022, how would you describe this work?
It’s the result of our first two years as a band, I would describe it as the first steps in the development of our sound.
Elaborate tracks and very intense vocals, what themes do your lyrics deal with?
The EP Fireflies is made of 5 songs, all of which cover very different themes in terms of lyrics. In short “Artificial Pleasure” deals with the concept of addiction, “Fireflies” lyrics are a silly adaptation of one of Games of Thrones storylines, “Dorian Gray” is about a person I had the pleasure of meeting, “Darling” is about hopeless love, and “Aluminium” talks about fighting the fear of the unknown.
Your music is full of contaminations of different genres and styles, how do you compose the tracks?
Usually, Victor (bass) presents us with a killer riff and we all build a song from there. Vocal melodies and lyrics come last.
Your music is very refined and engaging, it would be interesting to hear it live, do you
have plans for this?
We have been gigging non-stop since the covid restrictions on live music were lifted in Germany. It’s been great so far. Music and prog are constantly evolving and you are proof of that, how do you see the
future of your genre? More variety in sound, more experimentalism, and more pop hooks.
Yours is a very interesting EP full of ideas, do you already have plans for future releases?
We’ll start working on our first album soon, but that’s a secret 😉
The music market has changed a lot in the last few years, how difficult is it to make a name for yourself with a more sophisticated genre like yours?
Very. Even harder for us is to make ends meet with all of the additional costs of being an independent musician.
What advice would you give to a young band approaching the modern music scene with progressive and alt-rock sounds?
Just do what you like really.
As usual, I will leave the last question free to allow you to talk about any topic of your choice not touched upon in the previous questions.
I’ll use this space to thank you for your interest in our band!!
I would like to thank R3VO for the interview and the opportunity to review their debut EP, wishing them all the best for the continuation of their musical career.
