Herby Records started as a bored pandemic project between Frank Herbertson (management) and Justin Jackley (graphic design) in 2020. It was originally intended as a vehicle for Justin’s artwork and as a way to help promote our many musician friends around the world by releasing/re-releasing existing albums bearing Justin’s artwork already and making new ones. We quickly decided to set a goal of releasing 100 records over 10 years and then creating and releasing a book with a physical double 10” compilation album in 2030. We are currently well beyond the halfway point in physical releases, and this digital only free compilation album commemorates that milestone.
We would like to thank the dozens of musicians that have been a part of Herby Records for the past 5 years and allowed us to release their artistry — mostly on limited edition lathe-cut records from 13 to 25 copies and 5 releases as traditionally pressed vinyl records in editions of 100 to 200. We have worked with and are currently working with lots of great artists that create music in the genres of Psychedelic, Surf, Kraut, Doom, Drone, Punk, Dungeon Synth, and Avante-garde Experimental stuff that is often pretty “out there.” The connecting factor is that it is all music that we like! Thanks to Simon Feret (Psych9 Records) for putting up with the beast of a 70-year-old Rek-O-Kut lathe-cut machine in Guatemala and personally cutting most of our records and collaborating on and co-releasing many albums with Herby Records.
Thank you Adam Majdecki-Janicki for being the first musician to release an album on Herby Records in 2020 under A.J. Kaufmann — “Stoned Gypsy Wanderer 2” and for collaborating on so many other releases with his own record label, Via Kosmische, and for suggesting and coordinating this compilation album through the record store he works in, Wino & Winyle, in Poznań, Poland: https://winoiwinyle.bandcamp.com/
None of this could have happened without the collaboration of our friends and the support of our fans that continuously buy our records. We encourage you to follow the links to individual musician pages and buy their physical media when possible. Thanks for everything and stay tuned for the next 5 years and some more weird shit. – – Frank H. (September 2025)
— “Herby Compilation 2020–2025” recommended by A.J. Kaufmann —
This compilation is a celebration of five years of sonic exploration, community, and uncompromising creativity. Herby Records began as a pandemic-era experiment—an art-forward label founded by Frank Herbertson and Justin Jackley with a simple but ambitious goal: release 100 records in 10 years, then wrap it all up with a book and a double 10” vinyl in 2030. Now, halfway to that goal, this free digital compilation marks a major milestone.
Featuring 28 tracks from artists across the globe—from the UK, USA, Poland, Israel, Argentina, Germany, and beyond—this release showcases the full spectrum of Herby’s underground spirit. Expect Psychedelic swirls, Doom-laden riffs, surf freakouts, Dungeon Synth meditations, and Avant-Garde experiments that defy easy categorization. It’s music that’s raw, strange, and deeply personal—pressed mostly on lathe-cut records in ultra-limited editions, often fewer than 25 copies.
Herby Records is more than a label—it’s a family of artists and collaborators who believe in the power of physical media, hand-crafted sound, and the joy of discovering something truly “out there.” This compilation is a thank-you to the dozens of musicians who’ve shared their work, and to the fans who’ve supported it from day one.
I’m proud to have been part of this journey since the beginning, and I highly recommend diving into this collection. It’s a testament to what DIY music culture can achieve when driven by passion, friendship, and a love for the weird. — A.J. Kaufmann Poznań, Poland · 2025
