XCIII is pure Avantgardism led by Guillaume Beringer, and today we announce his return to the scene with a maxi EP titled “In Puncto Ad Inferna Descendunt” out on May 22nd via Club Inferno / My Kingdom Music in digital format, and the cover is a painting by Richard van Orley.
In its desire of experimenting, XCIII transports the listeners into a dreamy, hypnotic soundscape with its music made of Avantgarde Music, Prog Rock, Coldwave, small flashes of Black Metal, childish voices and also RAP elements. Its disturbing atmospheric voluptuousness finds the musical references in bands like Ulver, The Pineapple Thief, Porcupine Tree, Lunatic Soul, Anathema, Massive Attack.
Guillaume comments: “In Puncto Ad Inferna Descendunt” depicts various descents into the abyss, rendered through a disembodied violence that is almost sweet and liminal. It marks both a return to the band’s roots with its growls and an evolution featuring more electronic experimentation. It also includes the first musical notes from my daughter, Louison, whose innocent vocals create an atmosphere that is both childlike and vanishing”.
XCIII is 93 in Roman numerals and it’s a reference to poem 93, “A Une Passante,” from Charles Baudelaire‘s “Les Fleurs du Mal.” Baudelaire wrote in his poem: “The sweetness that enthralls and the pleasure that kills. A lightning flash… then night!”.
Well, that’s XCIII‘s and its music’s amazing essence.
