Taken from Led Zeppelin’s epochal fourth album, and a Billboard Top 15 hit in 1971, “Black Dog” is one of the foundation stones of 70s Metal. Yet “Black Dog” is also a song that lends itself to some utterly unexpected covers, from as far afield as Debbie Harry and Jazz master Ido Kurdhi… not to mention keyboard maestro Keith Emerson’s own version for the 2008 Zeppelin tribute album.

Now the late king of the keys has his 2008 recording tucked gently next to Psychedelic Warlords singer Zoie Green’s soaring vocal on a brand new version from Alan Davey and his Hawkwind-adjacent Space Rock project Hawkestrel!

Appearing on the upcoming “Cover Ya Tracks” album, the track is a breathtaking performance from multi-instrumentalist Davey, who weaves a solid web of sound around Black Dog’s native stomp. Find this and much more when the full album gets released on July 10!
