“Improvisation” is a track by the German Progressive Rock group Et Cetera, released on their self-titled album Et Cetera in 1971.
The band was part of the early 1970s German Prog scene and is often associated with Krautrock and Jazz-Rock influences. Their music combines Rock instrumentation with a strong emphasis on Free Improvisation, Jazz structures, and Experimental textures.
“Improvisation” is exactly what the title suggests: a largely spontaneous, instrumental piece, built around evolving interaction between guitar, keyboards, bass, and drums rather than a fixed song structure. The track highlights the band’s focus on mood, dynamics, and collective playing instead of traditional verse–chorus songwriting.
Et Cetera only released one album, and it has since become a cult record among collectors of early German Progressive and Jazz-Rock music, valued for its raw, exploratory sound and loose, jam-based approach.
