Born from the ashes of AKA — Indonesia’s most outrageous Rock band, whose frontman Ucok Harahap was famous for being whipped, stabbed, and suspended from the ceiling onstage — SAS Group formed in Surabaya in 1975. Guitarist Soenatha Tanjung, bassist Arthur Kaunang, and drummer Syech Abidin blended their Hard Rock roots with Progressive sensibilities, taking inspiration from Western trios like The Jimi Hendrix Experience, Grand Funk Railroad and Emerson, Lake & Palmer. In 1975 they released their debut album (featuring the explosive single “Baby Rock“) and cemented their place in the Indonesian Rock scene. By 1991 SAS had produced 15 full albums with dozens of hits in both English and Indonesian. “Bad Shock” is a compilation of the best of SAS‘s 1976-1981 output. This is the first ever SAS reissue, and a long-overdue introduction to the band that helped shape the golden age of Indonesian Rock and Roll.
