[Interview] Exclusive interview with I Hear Sirens

Dear readers, we are pleased to offer you in this article an interview with a Post-Rock band from Salt Lake City with a new album released in August 2024. Please welcome I Hear Sirens.

Hi, how are you?

We’re doing well, thank you.

How do you make the choice and what meaning does the band name I Hear Sirens have for you?

The name comes from Greek mythology Sirens. They would lure people in with their enchanting and irresistible songs. Hopefully, our music has that same effect.

You play Post-Rock with Atmospheric, Experimental sounds and Heavy passages, how did your passion for these musical genres arise?

We all grew up listening to Punk Rock, Hardcore, Post Hardcore, and Indie / Emo. You can definitely hear those influences in our music. The Appleseed Cast was a big influence for us. Especially, when we first started the band.

The band was formed in 2005, how has your sound evolved since then?

When we started out we kept things relatively simple, and just wrote songs randomly. As things evolved, we’ve focused on creating a mood or visual for our records. For the first time in the band’s history we now have a 2nd guitar. You’ll hear that evolution on the new record.

Your new album “Acheron” was released on August 23, 2024, how would you describe this work?

With Acheron, we were going for a horror movie soundtrack type vibe. It’s still got the classic I Hear Sirens feel, but a bit darker and heavier.

The title “Acheron” has references to Greek mythology, what can you tell us more about this choice and the theme of the album?

The album title comes from Acherontia Atropos, the Death’s-head Hawkmoth. In Greek mythology Acheron was the god of the underworld river of lost souls. The title sums up the record pretty well.

Your music is elaborate and full of sophisticated ideas, how does the creative process of your tracks take place?

Typically, we try to focus on creating a mood. I really don’t know how to describe our process. Most of the time it feels like the songs write themselves.

Many of your fans and our readers are wondering if there will be a chance to hear the new album live, do you have any plans in this regard?

Yes, We’ve got some plans in the works. We’ve been talking about Europe and China for 2025, but we’ll see what happens

Music is constantly evolving, how do you see the modern music scene in your genre?

The Post Rock community is amazing. From the bands to the fans, everyone is super friendly and supportive. It’s a wonderful scene to be a part of. Plus, you’ve got great festivals like Dunk in Europe and Post Fest in the US. Hopefully it continues to grow and flourish.

What advice would you give to young artists approaching music in a more sophisticated genre such as yours?

Honestly, just write music that you’d want to listen to. It can take awhile to develop your sound, but keep at it. It doesn’t need to be super complicated. Some of the best songs are the simplest ones.

I thank the band for the interview, wishing them all the best for the release of their new album and the continuation of their artistic career.
