The true sound of the pre-Afghan-greatcoat UK underground exudes from every inch of The Ultra Smooth Swagger Band who merge Neil Young-esque west-coast jams, melodic Progressive Help Yourself/Man-style twin-guitar smokers and propulsive Pink Fairies style rockers on this LP, originally recorded in 1972.
Eight tracks carefully recovered from the original tape, opening with the sucker-punch of “Turn Me on Dead Man” and ending with the 11-minute guitar-fest “It Grows on You.” Recommended for those who secretly wear embroidered denim shirts and love the smell of a Nepalese Temple Ball.
