“Volta Celeste” further cements the leap forward the band has made, particularly in terms of composition and production. This track perfectly captures the ethereal magnetism emanating from this sophomore LP, highlighting the band’s softer side while still venturing into epic and solemn territory. Highly recommended for fans of Caspian, God Is An Astronaut, Oh Hiroshima, or MONO.
With “Volta Celeste,” Echo Says Echo delivers an ode to our vast and mysterious galaxy. Its gentle opening seems to depict the transition from the darkest night to the first glimmers of light, like celestial bodies beginning to move. The melodies become increasingly rhythmic, mirroring the silent yet powerful dance orchestrated by the universe each night in the darkness. Guitars call out to and answer one another, while bass and drums join in a second, much more electric and driving section. This tribute concludes with a final, vibrant, chanted chorus, as if returning to Earth and its humanity.
“Even though it’s a classic live session, we designed the video to follow the same movement envisioned by the song. We worked with the lighting to maintain a relative dimness, before bursts of light appear for its more dynamic second half. We also filmed in such a way that the camera moved very close to us, like a choreographed dance that emphasizes intimacy and closeness.” – Echo Says Echo

“Aithaleia,” a word evoking ashes, soot, and fire, was the name given to the ancient Greek island of Elba and its volcanic landscape. This is the imagery that Echo Says Echo intends to infuse into the heart of their music on this new album. The collective effort and patchwork of diverse influences and musical roots form the sonic foundation of these six contrasting new tracks. Sonic exploration is the key, bringing together percussive and catchy sections, structured rhythms inherited from Math Rock, Electronic Experimentation, explosive heaviness, and pure, moving beauty. In short, a great deal of work on dynamics makes the experience all the more captivating — something that is never a given with an instrumental format!
This sophomore album is marked by the integration of drummer Thomas Baratte, who was given free rein to imprint each track with his signature style and versatile playing. Add to that a pronounced desire to play with sound, and you get a truly unique album for Echo Says Echo, conceived as a snapshot of four distinct personalities, united with harmony and osmosis into a coherent whole. “Aithaleia,” more than just a post-rock album that you enjoy meeting again like an old friend, is a plunge into the passionate souls of its creators, who have never been inclined to follow fads and trends, even in niche music.
