Just as Kipling’s hero from The Jungle Book discovers a life on the fringes of human society and flourishes among new companions, the French trio Mowgli ventures where you might not expect.
Their new album “Gueule de Boa” is a reminder that Electro-Jazz is a playground that still thrives. Infectious and catchy riffs mix with Experimental themes, asymmetrical yet danceable grooves. Through the rich and lush vegetation of the music, the trio penetrates further and further, as if into a jungle.
The name of Ferdinand Doumerc may sound familiar to followers of BMC Records: the French saxophonist is the leader of Pulcinella, a band who has released three albums on the label. He is now joined by Pierre Pollet and keyboard player Bastien Andrieu, together, they seek a path blending the acoustic with the electric, the throbbing with the garish, the innocent with the wild. The album title is a French play on words: “Gueule de Boa” means “the throat of the boa” in English, but the pronunciation is the same as the French equivalent of “hangover”.

With “Gueule de Boa,” Bastien Andrieu, Ferdinand Doumerc and Pierre Pollet create the soundtrack for a 21st century Mowgli.
Eruptive, rocky, breathless, Mowgli‘s music tells stories of the modern jungle. It oscillates between urban sounds and wild lyricism, abstract stripping and incandescent explosions.
