[News] Heavy Rock icons Greenleaf to release special “Revolution Rock Deluxe” double album on Blues Funeral Recordings

Blues Funeral Recordings team up with Swedish Heavy Rock giants Greenleaf to present “Revolution Rock Deluxe,” a special reissue of their first two classic records in one fully remastered and redesigned package to be released on March 28, 2025. Stream a rocking first excerpt with “Sold My Lady (Out The Back Of An Oldsmobile).”

Led by guitarist Tommi Holappa of European Desert Rock icons Dozer, Greenleaf began as an informal collective of friends making music inspired by their shared love of ’70s riff Rock. Having transformed into a proper band in 2013, Greenleaf enters 2025 at the forefront of the global Heavy scene on the heels of acclaimed latest album “The Head & The Habit.” Moving into the staggering twenty-fifth year of a monumental career, they mark the milestone with a very special reissue of their earliest releases.

Featuring members of Dozer, Lowrider, Demon Cleaner and more, Greenleaf’s first album “Revolution Rock” was self-released in 2001 and never widely distributed nor repressed since its original 500-copy run. The new “Revolution Rock Deluxe” combines that landmark album with Greenleaf’s long out-of-print 2000 debut EP onto a single stunning edition, with all songs fully remastered by Karl Daniel Lidén and the original art and design brilliantly refreshed and updated by Lowrider’s Peder Bergstrand.

Celebrate a quarter century of riff majesty with “Revolution Rock Deluxe,” and experience Greenleaf’s Big Bang for the first time again with a rocking excerpt below:

– A Greenleaf classic with members of Dozer, Lowrider and Demon Cleaner

About the song, guitarist Tommi Holappa remembers: “‘Sold My Lady…’ was the only song we had written before we entered the studio. The rest is improvised and written on the spot by five young guys who were heavily into 60’s and 70’s Rock. When I heard the remaster Karl Daniel had done I was blown away! You could really hear us sweating in the studio and enjoying every moment of it. It was free and easy times!

This was the first time I got to experience the sheer creative force of Tommi Holappa firsthand, and the chemistry we would have together writing. He came in with this absolutely awesome riff, and the melody and lyrics just started pouring out of me. Pretty much instantly the somewhat ominous but mostly ridiculous line “I sold my lady out the back of an Oldsmobile” just… materialized. Have no idea where it came from and we just drew outwards from there, telling this insane story about this guy on the run with his poor wife in the trunk, taunting the cops, confessing to the most heinous shit, haha. It’s always been like that with Tommi, and we’ve been like inspiration machines together ever since,” adds Peder Bergstrand.

On celebrating this new Greenleaf milestone, Blues Funeral founder Jadd Shickler comments: “I’m a follower and fan of every note of music Tommi Holappa has made in the nearly three decades we’ve known each other, and filled with pride to present this magnificent new edition of the earliest Greenleaf records for the first time since their original release at the dawn of the 2000s. The Greenleaf on this album is a pretty different band than the one who exists today, but Tommi’s riffs are the common thread that connects all their incarnations… and honestly, all you need are Tommi’s riffs to have something worth blasting endlessly through the years.

Revolution Rock Deluxe” will be available in limited and worldwide edition gatefold 2xLP and digipak CD formats, as well as being produced in an extremely limited quantity as a special deluxe vinyl edition for Blues Funeral’s exclusive PostWax Unlimited subscription series (more info).
