Rennes, France based Instrumental Progressive Post-Rock Hubble published the live session video for the track “Voyage” taken from their self-titled album out on May 31, 2024. Watch the video through the YouTube player below:
Warning: revelation. For those of you with a taste for adventurous, out-of-the-box music, Hubble are here. Formed in 2022, this young trio from Rennes has every intention of conquering this galaxy, with a Progressive Post-Rock sound that promises huge potential on this very first album. It’s an act of blossoming, and a mark of confidence and maturity for Thibault Gazengel (guitar), Raphaël Wallach (bass/synth) and Lucas Bansard (drums).
Although the members of Hubble display a wide range of influences from Metal, Jazz, Hip Hop, Funk and Prog Rock, there’s no sense of a mishmash when you listen to the 6 tracks on this first effort. It’s all about harmony, even if the vision of Post-Rock defended here can’t withstand sudden changes of scene. This harmony is the strong point for capturing your audience. Whether you’re talking about the more contemplative, Psychedelic parts, adorned with vintage guitar melodies and synthesizer-cosmic strings and loops, or the more intense riffs, more frontal, groovy or even epic rhythms, it’s impossible to take your eyes off the ball. The final track, “Sleepin’ Bear,” even seems to open up into an unexpected 80s New Wave register that’s nonetheless totally coherent. The band’s trademark variety of sound:
“We attach enormous importance to contrast and texture. When we formed Hubble, that was one of the first things we got together to focus on: sound. Accentuating these contrasts, which we felt were rare in the music that influenced us, allowed us to offer something that was relaxing to listen to… But that doesn’t mean you can’t get a slap in the face right afterwards!
What a timeless challenge it is to avoid boredom with instrumental music.
instrumental music. And that’s precisely what Hubble manages to avoid, with a very special narrative dimension. You’ll have noticed that these titles seem to have been adopted as nods to space travel. You may also recognise the voices of John F. Kennedy, Neil Armstrong or Buzz Aldrin, who accompany and inhabit this sonic journey. There you have it: a captivating concept album retracing the Apollo 11 mission to conquer the moon, from 1962 to 1969. A piece of history with a capital H, for which Hubble provides the ideal soundtrack.“
To get the full feel of this interstellar immensity, we had to opt for a production that offered as much breadth and space as possible. Les Rennais made no mistake with this live recording, which, as they point out, is a double advantage:
“Jordan Jupin, who recorded the album, convinced us of the merits of recording live. We hesitated, but in the end we all agreed that we wanted the album to sound alive, and to reflect the energy of our concerts. It’s still not easy music to play. Energy remains the most important element, and that’s what gets us through the complexity!
Propelled by a real talent for composition and a challenging musical baggage, Hubble already has the calibre of his more established peers on the post-music scene. See you on the launch pad See you on the launch pad, take-off imminent, and let the good word be preached!“
The album was recorded and mixed by Jordan Jupin, mastered by Paco, from Line-Check Record Studio.
