Bordeaux, France based Progressive Post-Rock/Metal band Matrass published the live session for the track “Silence” taken from upcoming debut album “Cathedrals” due out on 2024. Watch the video through the YouTube player below:

After Appetite For Comfort,” it is once again through a live session video captured at Sortie13 (Pessac) that the Bordeaux-based prog post metal band lifts the veil a little more on their debut album “Cathedrals,” expected for 2024.

Silence” will serve as a breather in this upcoming album, and reveals itself as an innovative piece in Matrass’s repertoire. Largely instrumental, it summons the Post-Rock of Russian Circles or Caspian in its structure, consisting of a slow progression, while its intense and tempestuous conclusion brings us back to the Blackgaze of Deafheaven. The saxophone in it, provided by singer Clémentine Browne, blends harmoniously with the lead guitar. Complementing and merging at the same time, these two sounds provide amplitude to the sound environment.

“The instrumental nature of ‘Silence’ invites more personal experience, where a song lets the listener be taken by the hand of the lyrics. We like the idea of leaving interpretation free. makes one’s own experience. We can also see it in reflection of Cathedrals: the progressive revelation of an experience, which ends up becoming unbearable because it generates so much noise inside. This single word, repeated in a loop at the end, invokes calm in a storm of voices, like a character talking to himself in his head.”

I would add that this new piece appears after Matrass performed this summer on the stages of french festivals Queyrock and 666, and has just opened for Hypno5e at Rocher de Palmer (Bordeaux). Last but not least, the quintet launched a crowdfunding campaign to bring Cathedrals to life. All the infos can be found here!
