It is not everyone who debuts with a live record, unless you are an eccentric and over-the-top personality like Samuele Boni, leader of the Samuel Bonn Heavy Band, author of the debut album “Distorted Jazz-Guitar Concerto” (Luminol Records). A completely instrumental work with which the author wants to bring together two apparently distant languages such as jazz and heavy metal, through the form of the classical concert, in three movements.
Samuel Bonn, born Samuele Boni, is a guitarist and composer born in 1994, founder of the Progressive Metal band Landscape of Zeroes, member of the Grindcore/Jazz band The Real Boob, guitarist in the Ginga Duo (promoting Brazilian music). “Distorted Jazz-Guitar Concerto” is a further demonstration of his versatility: composed by him with the participation of five equally eclectic musicians with whom he has already collaborated, the album is a live recording made on 4 March 2022 in the Sala Verdi del Conservatorio di Milano.
Jazz -Guitar refers to the school, the style, the set of improvisational techniques typical of masters such as Django Reinhardt, Charlie Christian, Wes Montgomery and Jim Hall to the more recent Julian Lage and Lage Lund. The term Distorted refers to reworking and arranging with sounds close to Rock and related. Ample space is given to guitars, three tracks with long solo improvisations, more difficult written parts, quotations from the European Classical tradition (Bach, Wagner, Strauss). At the centre is Samuel‘s talent, in which a past linked to the Metal sound and a love for the forms and aesthetics of Jazz coexist. In the intentions of the Samuel Bonn Heavy Band, the only possible music is extemporaneous and can only emerge in a dialectical relationship between listener and musician. Therefore live, offering the possibility of multiple interpretations, with a pedagogical and didactic idea of music that educates, as an asset to be shared.
