Following their release of their conceptual albums “The Puppeteer” (2021) and ”Sentience” (2023), Mainz-based Monosphere have shaken up the German Prog/Post-Metal scene. Their single “The Unknown Voice” (May 2024) and direct supports shows for Karnivool, Cradle Of Filth as well as international tours with The Hirsch Effekt, DVNE and Wheel made them reach the spearhead of their very own niche. Their sound, self-described as Progressive Post-(Black)-Metal, turns pages to a new chapter when the band’s newest single “Lapse” releases as an overture of the band’s third full-length album.

“Lapse” elaborates an atmospheric intro in the style of Cult Of Luna and The Ocean with explosive Post-Metal vibes and oppressive sound design. Divided into two tracks, “Lapse, Pt. I” functions as an intro that – in a pyramid shape – leads to the track’s climax while preparing it en détail with dark and gloomy soundscapes. Electronic elements and Kevin Ernst‘s vocals in their most mature form to date build bridges to Sleep Token and Agent Fresco, while the Sludgy Post-Metal vibe is interrupted by an intermezzo in true Norwegian Black Metal style, making it clear that Monosphere haven’t lost any of their brute heaviness. A chaotic ending that can be musically categorized between Car Bomb, Meshuggah, Imperial Triumphant and The Dillinger Escape Plan breaks the straightforwardness of the track’s first four minutes and surprises with an avant-garde approach that works like a cliffhanger making one waiting for more.
As main composer and drummer Rodney Fuchs comments:
“‘Lapse‘“ is the first track of a new chapter and hints at what you can expect from us in 2025. We don’t give a fuck about trends, hype or adapting to fit the music industry and as a result, we’re proud to present our strongest material to date, which we are all 100% confident in and which gains power thanks to a flawless production. This track is step up from the past on many levels.”
Produced by the band themselves and mixed by Justin Felder (The Hirsch Effekt, Heretoir and many more) and mastered by Tony Lindgren, Monosphere sonically opens a new chapter that also visually illuminates the band in a new image. Despite the fact of still being an independent band on all levels without a manager, booking agency, pr manager or label, Monosphere are truly on their way of becoming Germany’s next big name within the Atmospheric and Progressive/Post-Metal scene.
