On this Friday 04 April, let’s celebrate the release of a debut album that charmed, conquered and THRILLED me: that of the young champions from Moonback Stage! Hailing from Tours, the quartet are proving more than worthy of a place on France’s teeming rock scene, with their thunderous Echo Process (distributed by L’Autre Distribution). Aided by a rock-solid production by Christophe Hogommat (Mad Foxes, Basic Partner, Watertank…) on rec and mix and Thibault Chaumont (Igorrr, It It Anita, Carpenter Brut…) on mastering, these 7 tracks make light of labels, enjoy varying moods but manage to establish a real identity. Or when the Psychedelia of Psychedelic Porn Crumpets mingles with the noisy spirits of Lysistrata and Stuffed Foxes, and even the new-school Post-Punk of Shame.
Following on from EP’s “Waxy” (2020) and “Jinxed” (2023), “Echo Process” makes an undeniable statement: Moonback Stage is capable of great things. Starting with a sense of composition that’s off the charts. It’s a pleasure to wander from clear melodies to crisp riffs, while the rhythm section keeps the party going as tightly as ever. The vocals of guitarists Clarant and Basile are another highlight. Fiery and full of life, they seem to merge into one, giving even more cachet to this great hallucinatory trip.Â
The most important thing to remember is that these four friends have no other excuse than to spend time together, and no other goal than FUN when they come together under the Moonback Stage banner. Echo Process is a human album as we like them, evoking the personal stories of the members as well as social issues. The fact remains that to immerse yourself in it is to indulge in a wide range of sensations, and to let yourself go to beautiful emotions!
