After the release of their second album “Dark ~ Light,” Progressive outfits Mostly Nothing are back in full force with the vigorous, brand-new single, “Supernova.” Inspired by the likes of Plini, Haken or Native Construct, Mostly Nothing present an exciting novel strand of instrumental sound, created in the musical laboratory of Portuguese multi-instrumentalist and composer Sérgio Castro (Marvellous Talking Machine), who performs and produces all the music in this new track. Fuelled by soaring melodies intertwined with crushing riffs and dazzling rhythmic patterns, “Supernova” is a true journey through inner and outer space that has us hooked from the get-go. The song is anchored in a graceful dialogue between keyboard and guitar that flows in a spontaneous, duet-like fashion, as it progresses (no pun intended) through its many dimensions in its subtle use of chord and time changes.
The artist behind Mostly Nothing describes his music as an appreciation of the ideas and overall mentality of progressive metal music of the 2000s and 2010s, combined with a modern approach and original musical vision, that tries to use the medium of sound to create narratives and a world of images. Whereas the first two albums — the aforementioned “Dark ~ Light” and their debut “Short Stories” — were largely born out of experimentation, “Supernova” came into being after two years of carefully composing and arranging work, and displays full control of the voices that revealed themselves in past works.
“Supernova” was recorded in the last weeks of 2021, at the artist’s personal studio in his hometown of Guimarães, in northwestern Portugal.
The single was released on all major platforms in February.
