Orange Peel No Time

Bacillus Records have officially expanded their ongoing archival campaign with the digital release of “I Got No Time / Searching For A Place To Hide,” the long-obscured 1970 single by Orange Peel, now available via Bandcamp as of May 15, 2026. The release adds a crucial missing chapter to the German band’s short but highly influential trajectory within the late-Sixties Psychedelic and early Progressive underground.

Released in 1970 on Admiral Records, “I Got No Time / Searching For A Place To Hide” captures German band Orange Peel during a crucial transitional phase shortly before the recording of their sole studio album later the same year.

At this point, the group had already begun moving beyond late-1960s Psychedelic Rock toward the heavier organ-driven sound that would later define their cult LP. Compared to the more expansive album material, both tracks remain relatively compact and direct, while already revealing the band’s growing interest in Progressive structures, atmospheric tension and Blues-based Heavy Rock.

The single also documents a short-lived lineup change within the band. Following the temporary departure of original singer Peter Bischof, the recordings feature Michael Winzkowski — previously active in Frankfurt band Nosferatu — whose distinctive, Steve Winwood-inspired vocal style gave this phase of Orange Peel a noticeably different character. Shortly afterwards, Winzkowski would go on to found Epsilon, another important act within the early Bacillus Records environment.

According to artist and contemporary witness Helmut Wenske, the release emerged after he introduced the band to Bellaphon producer Michael Schepior following rehearsals in Hanau. “I Got No Time” subsequently achieved unexpected chart success in France, shortly before Orange Peel expanded their lineup with organist Ralph Wilheiß, recorded their only LP at Dierks Studios and toured France after appearances alongside Deep Purple.

Today, the single stands as an important early document of the German underground scene at the moment Psychedelic Rock evolved into heavier Progressive and Krautrock-oriented forms.

Originally issued on Admiral Records, later associated with the Bellaphon catalogue, the release remains a historically significant companion piece to Orange Peel’s 1970 album.

This release is part of the Bacillus Records archive on Bandcamp.
