Get in a trance with Bank Myna‘s new video “Burn All The Edges”

The word ‘cathartic’ seems to be often linked to Bank Myna, and especially on “Burn All The Edges,” it’s pretty damn clear why that is.” – Everything Is Noise

Three crashing chords, each note resonating like a tear. New single “Burn All The Edges” plunges the listener into the intensity of an inner fracture, into a confined space where everything seems to break without any hope of repair. This is an exploration of rupture, a confrontation with what must be surpassed to reinvent oneself, a salvaging and violent gesture, a visceral act of deconstruction.

The lyrics evoke an intimate struggle, a feeling of split identity, a confusion between what is real and what no longer is. Raw and oppressive, the music reinforces this turmoil, with a dense production and vibrant energy that give the track an almost suffocating depth. The words ‘burn all the edges’ are relentlessly repeated to illustrate this silent inner rebellion that amplifies until it inevitably bursts.

About the video, Bank Myna comments: “Director Paul Nizan chose an abstract and symbolic visual approach, inspired by the avant-garde films of experimental filmmaker Stan Brakhage. He created an atmosphere that reflects the raw energy and power of the track through distorted images, with heavy effects, and organic, luminous textures. The first images, filmed inside a sculpture created by the video artist, produce bright red flashes and incandescent shapes. Microscopic organisms or celestial phenomena, they embody the interiority of the piece and its rise to power. The theme of fire is addressed by burning textures, creating a sensation of gradual conflagration. Enigmatic images of a Parisian church then emerge, filmed chaotically and deliberately out of focus, forming a vortex of Gothic architecture. An inner labyrinth takes shape. Escape seems impossible until the initial images blend into this maelstrom to illustrate the idea of “burning the edges” to free oneself from shackles.

New album “Eimuria” out April 25th on Medication Times Records / Araki Records / Stellar Frequencies / Modulor (preorders available on March 9th)

Initiated in 2013 in Paris, Bank Myna is the architect of a unique universe where Dark Post-Rock, Drone, sound experiments and Doom-like incursions mingle. Among a mystical voice and dronian soundscapes, Bank Myna’s music offers free structures within which the sounds are ample, deep and the play on textures permanent. Ecstatic vocals lead the way to slow movements before letting the sound space tear up under bass and guitar feedbacks. Progressive, intense, torn between shadow and light, the Parisian quartet likes to give breadth and power to its compositions in an abrasive and instinctive live act, oscillating from flutterings imposed by drone sounds to dazzling Noise and Heavy Rock explosions.

Heavier and more direct than its equally dark and ritualistic predecessor “Volaverunt,” Bank Myna‘s forthcoming sophomore full-length “Eimuria” combines lightness and absolute darkness through a palette of influences matured over the last few years: obsidian-tinged Post-Rock, Doom incursions and delicate Slowcore with mystical overtones turn the five tracks into a breathless, cathartic album. At times loud and intense, at other times minimalist and profound, the sound atmospheres alternate and serve a more assertive narrative, where the solemn slides irrevocably towards distortion, bringing an electric fury that we hardly knew existed within Bank Myna, as a counterpoint to their airy melancholy.

Recorded in a live setting, the album captures the palpable osmosis between the musicians with sensitivity and spontaneity, thanks to ample, warm sounds. Especially inspired by the tumultuous lives and artistic productions of poetess Alejandra Pizarnik and sculptor Camille Claudel and deeply intimate, it narrates a process of personal transformation interspersed with brutal ruptures. “Eimuria” was recorded and mixed by long-time collaborator Mathieu Gaud at Vetter Studio and mastered by Harris Newman at Grey Market in Montreal. Artwork was designed by Italian Experimental photographer Ramona Zordini.
