Heavy guitar riffs, the courage to be monotonous and a sound with trance-like vocals that is usually aimed in one direction: deep into the pit of your stomach. For Monolord, hectic is not a relevant category. With their Doom Metal, the band from Sweden have forever for their journey towards infinity.
Discovering slowness is not an issue for this band. Because they have long since perfected the ‘deceleration’ project for themselves. Founded in Gothenburg in 2013, Monolord have completely lost their cool with their version of doom metal. Hectic is not a relevant category for the Swedish trio. Heavy guitar riffs and the courage to be monotonous, on the other hand, are important to them.
When Monolord‘s sound is travelling towards infinity, Thomas V. Jäger‘s trance-like vocals are usually aimed deep into the pit of your stomach. And on a breaker like “Empress Rising,” the trio celebrates a completely different kind of tension. It doesn’t happen too often, but it does happen: you hear a riff for 13 minutes. Over and over again, over and over again. The doom aristocracy doesn’t live exclusively in Gothenburg. But thanks to Monolord, it has an important branch there.
