RuinsZu is fusing the original core of Rome’s ace Zu bassist Massimo Pupillo and saxophonist Luca T. Mai together with drummer Yoshida Tatsuya – founder of the Japanese band Ruins. The collaborative paths of three great artists has crossed the long-time ago.
Having known each other since the 90’s and having toured together several times, it was written in the stars that at some point Ruins as in mighty and unique drummer Tatsuya Yoshida from Tokyo and Zu core members Luca T. Mai and Massimo Pupillo from Rome would come together and collaborate. This happened in 2024 with the extensive tour across Europe. With their final date at Jazzisdead festival in Turin, Italy.

“Zu were huge Ruins fans in their early 20’s. Before Zu was even born as a band really. Ruins were one of our main influences as we started. We would have peed our pants if someone had told us we were to play with the mighty Yoshida one day.
Yoshida was conjuring prog metal noise post everything music back in the mid 80’s. He’s like another dimension . This album is a dream come true for us.”
Recorded in multitrack, “Jazzisdead live” showcases a unique collection of the musical material. Rearranged and revisited by both, Zu and Yoshida-san, this recording captures the trio at their 23rd show in a row, in full shape and form, capturing a very magical and adventurous moment in their musical life, for you to enjoy.
