We are happy to announce that Norway’s Jazz Rockers Sex Magick Wizards will release their new album “Suola ja Noaidi” on the September 04, 2026 via Is It Jazz? Records.
With three critically acclaimed albums behind them, their upcoming release “Suola ja Noaidi (The Thief and the Shaman)” stands as a powerful new statement in Sámi-influenced Experimental Rock and shows a new chapter for the band.

The band has this to say about “Old Unbaptized Realms“:
“The song is based on an old traditional joik called Ivgorášša and is performed with great intensity and ferociousness by the four musicians. The Wizards´s names are Ingvald Vassbø, Henrik Sandstad Dalen, Sigrid Aftret and Viktor Bomstad. The lyrics in the song are partly original by the band and partly from the old Sámi joik Suola Ja Noaidi which forms the conceptual base and starting point for the whole album. In Old Unbaptised Realms you´ll hear trance-like bass riffs swirling into eternity, jazzy and explosive drums thundering, dissonant and aggressive saxophones screeching and screaming and the psychedelic and heartfelt, shouted vocals by Viktor. All the elements coming beautifully together in a hypnotic whole.“
The album features cover artwork by Henrik Sørlid, incorporating collages based on works by Sámi artist Ingunn Utsi, put together by Lasse Marhaug. All English lyrics by Sex Magick Wizards have been translated into Northern Sámi by Risten Sofie West and are presented in a booklet inside the folder. The album also includes the original surviving poem Suola Ja Noaidi in both a modernized Northern Sámi transcription and English translation by Harald Gaski. Sex Magick Wizards formed back in 2017 and have spent the last years touring extensively across Europe’s underground and experimental music scenes. They’ve become one of the more influential Norwegian bands in the borderline between Experimental Rock and Jazz acts and have constantly developed their sound over the years.
The band members Viktor Bomstad (guitar, joik, vocals, synth), Sigrid Aftret (saxophones, flutes, vocals, synth), Henrik Sandstad Dalen (bass, vocals, sampling) and Ingvald André Vassbø (drums, vocals) are all active across the Norwegian Jazz, Rock, and Experimental scenes, known through work with groups including Kanaan, Full Earth and Trondheim Jazz Orchestra. Together they create uncompromising, forward-moving music drawing from Psychedelic Rock, Sámi culture and the Avant-Garde tradition.
